Celebrate July 4 with a number of activities, including the annual Antiques Fair sponsored by the Wareham Historical Society on the village green. The fair opens at 9 a.m. and features numerous vendors with a wide variety of commodities for sale. There’s also lunch available. Those interested can have their own antiques evaluated. The Fearing Tavern will be open, free, for the price of admission to the fair. The society used the funds generated to help with upkeep of their numerous historical buildings around town.

The annual town fireworks display will be held July 5 over Onset Bay. Those attending need to get into the village early. Parking for people with handicap plates or stickers is available on Onset Pier. The display begins after dusk. Be prepared. There will probably be people collecting donations on every avenue leading to the village center. Be prepared for a traffic jam. The jam is worth it what with the sounds of the evening as the displays echo off the bay.

The Wareham Fire District Water Department is installing a new water main on Blackmore Pond Road between Rose Point and County Road.
Motorist may experience significant delays and/or detours during the period July 7, 2008 through Aug. 31, 2008.
Due to the constricted right-of-way along Blackmore Pond Road, significant traffic delays are expected. As such, through travel from Rose Point to County Road will be restricted to one lane or closed off completely.
Detour signs and police will be in position to aid travelers. Every effort will be made to accommodate local residents, school buses, and emergency vehicles. Pass through travel will be delayed or detoured as determined by public safety officials.
County Road and Route I-195 are suggested alternatives to avoid the work zone. The Water Department regrets the inconvenience this work will cause the traveling public.
